DR. JESSICA H. SHIYOMURA, PT, DPT
Message from Dr. Jessica:
I started working with clients that had HSD or hEDS that were looking for help. I quickly realized that their bodies did not follow the "textbook" that we were taught in Physical Therapy school. I began to ask why and looked for a solution. Today, I have been helping hundreds of HSD/EDS clients improve their lives with my special treatment approach. This has allowed my clients to not only survive the day, but thrive with their HSD/EDS diagnosis.
If you have been told that your symptoms are not real or it's all in your head, I want you to know that I am here to help you. I know the struggles you experience every day and you want to do so much more, but it can be hard to do so when you feel like your body is failing you.
Please know that you are not alone, and I hear you.
-Stay Strong. Stay Flexible.
Doctor of Physical Therapy
She graduated as Jessica H. Benson (her maiden name) from Fresno State and received her Master of Physical Therapy degree as well as her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Her sports injuries as a gymnast and cheerleader led her towards her career in physical therapy. She quickly understood that to fully improve your health and wellbeing, one must improve their whole body wellness through exercise, nutrition and positive mental health.
She was a competitive gymnast in California and enjoyed the athleticism and challenge of gymnastics. She even competed in the California Junior Olympics. Her favorite gymnastics event is the Floor Routine as she was a natural-born performer.
She was also a football and competition cheerleader. During stunting, she has been a flyer, base as well as a spotter. She enjoyed the performances with her teams and the challenge of synchronizing their stunts and tumbling.
Former Cheer & Tumbling Coach
She started coaching cheerleading and tumbling in high school and continued coaching during Physical Therapy school. She loved watching her athletes learn new skills and become more confident in their performances.
Certified Barbell Rehab Method
She obtained her BRM certification to be able to incorporate barbell lifting with her athletes, clients, and patients. She also is a Female Barbell Athlete Specialist which allows for safe strength training programming for her female clients from puberty, to pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause.
Women's Coaching Specialist
Her certification allows her to help women progress and modify their exercise routine based on their current stage of their life. She understands that physiological and exercise needs of women vary depending on whether they are trying to get pregnant, recently suffered a pregnancy-loss, currently pregnant, or recently had a baby. And she can help you during any of these stages of your life.
Certified Yoga Instructor YTT-200
As she understands the importance of both strength and flexibility when recovering from an injury, she wanted to increase her knowledge of yoga poses to incorporate into her appointments. Her certification allows yoga flow to be an integral part of her clients' treatment plans.
Jessica married her hometown sweetheart, Keiji, from Lemoore, California. They currently live in Redmond, Oregon. When not working, they enjoy spending time outdoors going on hikes, paddle boarding, relaxing on the beach, or camping.
Standard Poodle Owner
Jessica and Keiji are proud dog owners of their Standard Poodle, Frank. He enjoys sunbathing, running on the beach, eating meat, going on hikes, and paddle boarding.
